6 Ways to Boost Your Professional Online Image
Take a look at your LinkedIn. If you haven’t re-read it in the last 6
months, it’s time for a reassessment. Have your duties at work changed or
increased? Have you earned any recognition or taken a course? All these are
things that should be added to your profile. Make sure to upload a good photo,
too.
Update your resume. No matter how much you love your job, or
how secure you feel where you work, it is important to keep your resume up to
date. Even if you don’t plan on job hunting any time soon, employers may ask
for your resume to submit with corporate proposals. Government RFQs frequently
require a summary of key personnel.
Resubmit online resumes. Have you joined Monster, Indeed, Flexjobs,
or any other type of job board or site? Resubmit your updated resume.
Choose a good profile picture. Whether it is for LinkedIn or the company
website, make sure your photo is in focus, without awkward cropping. Head and
shoulders shots are best. Remember you want to look pleasant and be
recognizable.
Clean up your social media. Almost all hiring professionals are doing
a social media scan before hiring. Delete photos and posts which cast you in a
negative light. That means no drinking pictures and no profanity. Also, review
your Likes and Follows. Are there any in there that you would be embarrassed for
an employer to see?
Check those links. Do you use an online portfolio? Do you
have links to your work in your resume or personal website? Links to be
verified once a month to make sure they are working properly and that third
party owners have not removed them.
