Grind. Why would you want to?

Grind

Unless we're talking spices or coffee, I'm not interested. Well, dancing, but that's a blog for another day.

"Rise and grind." "God. Goals. Grind." "Get up and grind." What exactly are you trying to crush? Other people? It all sounds so exhausting. If you think of grinding first thing in the morning, you'll start out exhausted. It's rather sad to think that to get ahead, we have to suffer or destroy.

The words we choose have impact. Not just on the listener, but in our brains. Grind. You can almost hear it when you say it. Coffee grinders are loud. Grinding gears is never good. We all cringe when we hear that. And when we talk about "grind" in the work context, well, it just sounds hard, doesn't it? Nothing at all, like "It was a breeze." or "Smooth sailing all the way."

We all need motivation, and if you like making things more challenging than they need to be, then by all means, grind away. But … how about, "Get up and enjoy." Wake up and inspire." What about "diligence"? That's a good word. Or "dedication." Or, "Get in the groove." Oooh, I like the sound of that one.
