Pat yourself on the back

I am ridiculously proud to announce that this blog has won The Charleston American Marketing Association 2018 Spark! Award for Best Corporate blog.

This is an honor, because Take Maggie's Word for It was up against some pretty heavy hitters who are putting out very impressive work.

We are humbled.

We are also shameless self-promoters, because spreading the word is what marketing is all about.

I've attended a few awards shows during my career and have noticed the same pattern: Company wins award, a picture of it gets shared on social media that night, the award is placed on the boss's credenza, where it captures dust for years to come.

You have probably accumulated more accolades than you realize. Have you been a guest speaker? Do you have some certificates of recognition? Have you been a finalist in any sort of competition? Do you volunteer or serve on the board of an organization? Spread the news!

Promoting your accomplishments builds your credibility. Potential clients and new hires will see that others recognize your work.

Here are 7 tips on how to get more mileage out of your recognition.
  1. Use pictures of your award, a photo of you receiving the award, or pictures from the event to share on social media.
  2. Blog about it.
  3. Write and distribute a press release.
  4. Add a mention on your website.
  5. Use as a tagline on your email signature.
  6. Include awards on your bio, resume, and LinkedIn profile.
  7. Mention it along with qualifications when drafting proposals.
So, pat yourself on the back. You deserve it!

Receiving the Spark! Award from Kelly Nelson, Charleston AMA President.

Winning an award is serious business.
