LinkedIn Check-in

When is the last time you looked at your own LinkedIn profile? Even if you are you are happily employed, it is a wise idea to keep your LinkedIn profile updated. Why is this important, you ask?

  • Unexpected job change
  • People are researching your company
  • Saves time to keep current before you need it

A job change may be your choice. A sudden opportunity presents itself and you will want to be ready and searchable. Then again, you may be faced with an unannounced downsizing and a current LinkedIn profile will help you hit the ground running in a career pivot.

Potential clients and investors will conduct company research, and that includes scanning the profiles of a company's personnel. Many people are afraid that making updates to their LinkedIn will send a message to their employer that they are searching for another position. Having a polished profile is a good reflection on your employer. They want to be perceived as having top-notch people.

It is so much easier to update your profile concurrent with your duties. Ever look back at an old resume and think, "Wow, I had completely forgotten I used to do all of that." Changes will be posted and keep your profile fresh in the feed of your LinkedIn connections – a little reminder that you are still out there. People may reach out to you with job opportunities, or ask for advice or recommendations. Keeping your profile current enables you to respond to any type of inquiry quickly.
