Double Trouble

Double-check your writing for this common error

Today’s tip: Be aware of using the same word more than once in a sentence or paragraph.

You have reread your letter and used spellcheck. That should do it, right? Take one final look before hitting send, and this time, watch for repeated words.

Using the same word multiple times in close proximity gives the impression of a limited vocabulary or a cumbersome attempt at search engine optimization. People will believe you are more interested in your analytics than you are sharing useful information with them.

Obviously, it is impossible not to mention certain nouns repeatedly. After all, there is pretty much only one word for crankshaft or chateaubriand.

Have fun with that thesaurus!
